But every game or sporting event has rules, according to Dr. George Sargiss. If patients arrive on time for their appointment, they get a coin. If their toothbrushing has been graded good or better, they can claim some more coins. If they have managed not to lose or break any of the braces, wires or appliances, they can chalk up a few more. Wearing their removable appliances for the correct amount of hours sends more coins their way. Even wearing their Brace Place T-shirt to their appointment gets them a coin. The coins can be spent right away or accumulated for larger prizes later on, according to Sargiss.

Brace Place has offices in Freehold, Manalapan and East Windsor, and there are two orthodontists in each office.

Epstein said that the doctors continue to train and study in their field to keep updated in the latest developments in orthodontics. They are active members of the American Dental Association, the American Association of Orthodontics and the American Board of Orthodontics. Some of the doctors are Fellows of the American College of Dentists and Fellows of the Federation Dental International.

Dr. Thomas Morgenstern, who was one of the founders of Brace Place more than 30 years ago, is a past president of the New Jersey State Dental Association, and Dr. Brad Elkin currently serves as the treasurer of the Mercer County Dental Association. Dr. Joshua Epstein and Dr. George Sargiss are on staff at CentraState Medical Center.

Dr. Martin B. Epstein joined Brace Place to offer his vast experience and knowledge. He has lectured throughout the world on his orthodontic technique. He joins his son and longtime friends to continue the excellent reputation that Brace Place has maintained for the past 30 years.

The practice of orthodontics is a very specialized area of dentistry that deals with the diagnosis, prevention, interception and treatment of dental and facial irregularities that are caused by crowded, crooked or protruding teeth or by poorly aligned jaws, according to Dr. Brad Elkin. These problems are corrected with traditional braces or Invisalign.

“Crooked teeth are very difficult to keep clean and healthy,” Elkin said.“Teeth that fit poorly together make it hard to chew food properly and can cause improper wear of the teeth, and poorly positioned teeth can lead to gum disease and ultimate loss of teeth.”

The services available at Brace Place include conventional orthodontic treatment, such as comprehensive fixed brace treatment; adult orthodontics, which includes clear, ceramic brackets,“invisible” braces behind teeth and the Invisalign system; child interceptive treatment, which includes growth supervision, space maintainers and early crossbite correction; functional jaw orthopedics, which includes upper jaw widening, fixed and removal functional appliances for lower jaw advancement and/or upper jaw advancement; surgical orthodontics, where the orthodontist and an oral surgeon work together to correct major facial and skeletal disharmonies; and cosmetic orthodontics, which includes space closure and minor tooth removal.

Dr. Thomas Morgenstern said that the staff at Brace Place is one of the main reasons the office runs so smoothly. The average Brace Place employee has been at the practice for 15 years. Many of the employees have been there since the inception of the practice. This has created a family atmosphere. Many of the parents were patients when they were younger. “Parents frequently get excited to see the same friendly faces they saw as kids,” Morgenstern added.

The Brace Place Welcomes a New Doctor

Dr. Martin B. Epstein has joined Brace Place Orthodontics, which has offices in Manalapan, Freehold and East Windsor.
According to a press release, Dr. Epstein has been treating movie stars, musicians and international world leaders in his Upper East Side Manhattan practice for the past 20 years. He has lectured throughout Europe, South America and the Far East on his orthodontic technique, teaching orthodontists throughout the world. During his tenure as professor of post-graduate orthodontics at New York University, he was given the honor of Teacher of the Year.

Dr. Epstein is a diplomate of the American Association of Orthodontics and has served as president, vice president, secretary, treasurer and editor of the N.Y.U. Orthodontic Alumni Society. He also reviews articles for the American Journal of Orthodontics.

Dr. Epstein will be treating patients two days a week alongside his son, Dr. Joshua Z. Epstein, and partners Drs. Brad Elkin, Thomas Morgenstern and George Sargiss.
